Reviews About Diving in Side Turkey Excursions

Enjoyable experience but some improvements needed

I’m going to write this review in the correct way a review should be written and therefore I hope that this review will help other like minded qualified divers with their planning etc. I am both PADI AOW and BSAC Sports Diver qualified and have been in diving practice for 5 years, I have used dive centres in the Maldives, Crete, Cyprus and the UK.

First of all the dive centre itself is located nicely on the beach front between Manavgat and Side, it’s a very very small basic dive centre but it serves its purpose and they have a compressor.

The staff are very friendly, extremely approachable and very helpful, I only met Dennis and Sinan, Sinan was the lead instructor with Dennis more of the assistant instructor, both knowledgeable of the local sites and both seemed pretty clued up on diving in general.

The equipment was very basic with a lot of guessing going on with regards to sizing and weighting etc and they didn’t offer any dive computers so if you are planning on using this centre then bare that in mind when your packing back at home!

Ok on to the diving:

Firstly the pre dive brief was present but was missing quite a bit of context, don’t get me wrong I hate it when your dive guide takes 45 minutes doing a pre dive brief but this one was very basic, safety points etc were covered so nothing massive to worry about and basic hand signs were also revised. The dive boat was a small one but it had two platforms and a set of steps and actually did the job nicely, it is anchored offshore so you have to wade from the beach to the boat through the water with your kit on your shoulder, I’m 5ft 11 inches and the water level got to my chest, for me this was fine and actually I quite liked the fact that I had to use some strength pre dive, it added to the adventure a little! Others wouldn’t be so appreciative I’m sure!

The dive site was “Side reef 1” and was a ten minute boat trip, once on site we kitted up one by one and entered the water, no one was buddied up and there was no pre dive buddy checks enforced, we were told to stay close to either guide and that was it!! I wasn’t happy at all about this arrangement as I’m sure every other qualified diver wouldn’t be either! Once in the water it was a nice steady descent down a shot line which dropped you nicely at the entrance to the underwater museum, this I really really liked, visibility was a good 15-20 meters, we went away from the museum to begin with and made our way to a tiny little cave this was also a nice little feature of the dive, from there we headed back towards the underwater museum going by a small wreck and pushed further in, the sea life was present in the form of sea urchins, wrasse, tuna and other smaller type fish. Our dive lasted 57 minutes we did a 3 minute safety stop at 6 meters and then made our way back to the boat! Job done!

On our return to the dive centre it was another little trek off the boat and back through the water onto the beach and to the dive centre with your kit on your shoulder, Dennis and Sinan took care of kit dismantling and washing it down leaving us to get changed and fill out log books!

Overall I really did enjoy myself and thought that both Sinan and Dennis were good instructors, there are some improvements needed both to the dive centre itself and the dive structure if this dive centre is to ever warrant a 4 or 5 star rating or excellent or very good rating on trip advisor, but for me this was a nice little centre which I would use again. Thank you very much for a pleasant experience and I wish you all the best for the future.
